Fuzzy photo of something very cool indeed

Fuzzy photo of something very cool indeed

Got something interesting in the post today...

Farnell are now stocking an LCD-compatible 16x2 PLED display, which
you'll find a fuzzy photo of, fitted to my P3, in the Yahoo photos
section.
You'll find a description of PLED here:
http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci535060,00.html

It looks much cooler in the dark than the LCD display, but at the
moment it seems to be dumping a lot of crap onto the supply lines,
and screwing up the reading of the pots, so I'll need to sort out a
mod before these can be readily used.
They are 3 times the price of the LCD display, too.

Cheers,
Colin f

PLED again

2003-10-01 by colinfraser_com

Hi people,

Last night, I wrote of a new PLED display:

Tonight I put a 10R resistor inline with the 5v supply to the PLED
module, and a 10uF decoupling cap across 5v and gnd on the module,
and it now seems to be much cleaner - no pot glitches so far.
It looks really, really cool. Much nicer than an LCD display, and
certainly worth the difference in price to me anyway.
The contrast is far higher, and the viewing angle is much wider.
The makers should also be producing RED PLED displays soon, too...
I can hardly wait ;-)

The only problem now is something I noticed on Paul M's P3 at the
synth-diy weekend, but forgot about.
LCD modules (and the PLED is the same) with a Japanese rather than
Western font will show some odd characters instead of the double <
and > symbols I've used for some things in the P3 display.
To be honest, I think the alternative characters look pretty cool...
I just though I'd mention it in case anyone thinks there's something
wrong with their display.

Cheers,
Colin f
