New owner doc comment

Hello, new P3 owner here. Unfortunately I haven't been able to power
it up yet (I assumed the US distributor would have included a power
supply, so I didn't source one ahead of time - my fault for assuming).

However, it would be nice if the included manual had a basic section
in the back with the technical specifications. Just the basics like
HxWxD, weight, and power requirements (9v, xxxmA, center positive???,
2.1mm barrel - O.D. or I.D. ?). I thought I remembered seeing some
of that on a web site somewhere, but getting web access from the
studio is not possible (plus there's the slow dialup issue), therefore
having the info in print would be great.

I have been debating whether to put it on a slide out tray in the
rack or on a rolling stand. Will post a pic when it's decided.

Anyway, very excited about the P3 and look forward to running the P3
and Notron in tandem.

Tom

All P3s purchased new come with power supplies, we made a mistake and
forgot to include one with this shipment. We are sending Tom a new
power supply on Tuesday. Sorry for the delay and for the confusion.

I thought they were including them - I'll check with Shawn.

The next manual will have that sort of thing, plus an index.
I'm planning on doing a separate Aux events manual too, and getting the
tutorial video done just as soon as I build my over-head camera mount.

9v, at least 400mA, centre positive DC or AC, 2.1mm barrel inside diameter.
There's a polarity protection diode in there, so you can't fry it with the
wrong polarity, and AC will be recitifed if you find it easier to get hold
of an AC output adaptor.
Hope that helps.

It's funny you would mention a 9v power supply - my P3 (1009) has
9volts printed above its power jack - however, it came with a 12v PSU,
and it won't boot when powered with a 9volt source!

I'd guess your 9 volt supply is the wrong polarity.
The power input on P3 feeds a voltage regulator that provides the internal 5
volt supply.
The regulator needs at least 7.5 volts input to guarantee a smooth 5 volts
output, but the supply can be anything from 7.5 to 15 volts.
I state 9 volts because that's enough margin for the regulator without being
excessive.
In theory the regulator can take up to 30 volts, but it would run really
hot.

That's probably right as Gary's was one of the first assembled P3s on
US shores last spring. In the beginning we had all sorts of problems
with sourcing PSUs for the P3. First they had a different barrel size
then we are used to and then the polarity was different. Colin worked
with us to solve all our problems and the power supplies shipping with
P3s now (when they're included :) ) should be OK.

Gary - If you want us to send you a new supply we can do that.
