step length question

step length question

2005-09-25 by tmoravan

I'm not as well versed in the P3 as some of you, so maybe there is an
answer I haven't found yet.

I wanted to set up a track with a couple of drone notes on it. I put a
note on step 1, set the length to 12, but it didn't hold long enough.
So I tied it to a few consecutive notes (no gates on them) but it
didn't seem to sustain the patch like I thought it would. It seems
like the length of the sound is governed by the gate length of the
triggering step only.

If that's the case, what would the consequences be (and can the sw
support) allowing the step length to exceed 12? (ie like 48 or 96 or
even higher).

Thanks.

PS - thanks Duncan, I'd probably just modify my manual to match the new
color scheme. And yes, that twin seq. pack was shipped out, so report
that nonsense to ebay.

Tied notes also need their gates on.

Long tbases are good for drones, if you haven't got to that bit yet.
Set tbase to 1 and each step will last one bar.

Step length is internally scaled depending on the tbase setting.
e.g. if you set tbase to 8, notes with a length of 12 will be converted on
the fly to a length of 24.

There is a new feature in the works that will be ideal for drone notes...
