I spent about $140 @ Mouser for what I needed..  Plus $30 I think for the Pled display, and figure another $20 for misc IC's, parts, whatever..
 
So thats $190.  I'd say budget $200 for it and take your time ordering and scrounging for parts.
 
Then save a weekend for mad soldering..
 
They pray and hope it works..
 
Or just buy it assembled and be done with it!   : )
 
If you can, try to meet with someone and demo the P3 yourself before going for it.  It takes some time to get your head around but is super-flexible.  It can be though of as almost a modular sequencer, if you think about how all the tracks can affect eachother and interact.  wild stuff for sure.
