Pled module

2003-10-07 by roelp23

Hi Colin,
Most likely I'll receive the PLED module tomorrow. What should I do
to install it. A baby roomate broke my LCD module, so now I can only
see half of the display. Take care with babies how like to tweak
knobs!!
Cheers,
Roel

No pictures of the PLED wiring tonight I'm afraid. Need to stick the
digicam batteries in the charger, and buy some new ones that hold their
charge for more than a few hours sometime...
But I had a look at the mounting pads, and they're not actually
connected to any of the tracks, so it seems the de-coupling will be
needed at least for the module I got.
I soldered one end of a 10 ohm resistor to the +5v supply wire at the
module end, with the other end of the resistor soldered onto the module
connector pin 2. The 10uF cap (total guess of value, smaller may be
fine) is between +5v and ground - pins 2 and 1.
I'll post a photo tomorrow.

Cheers,
Colin f

I've added a picture of the wiring on the back of my PLED module to
my webpage -
http://www.colinfraser.com/p3/p3-build-6.htm
This module fits in exactly the same mounting points as the previous
one, so aside from the cap and resistor (ugly...) it's a drop-in
replacement.
If I had anything else with a 16x2 display in it, I'd certainly be
wanting to swap it out for one of these.

Cheers,
Colin f
