PLED module problem

PLED module problem

2003-10-17 by roelp23

Hi,
I've just installed the new PLED module, and at first sight all
seemed to work exept for the PLED module. After turning
the 'brightness' trimpot the opposite side the characters showed up.
I found that a little strange because I had to turn the trimpot to
the opposite side then with the LCD module. But what the hack, the
display looked great. But after 5 min the P3 suddenly stopped
operating, like the power went off. But it didn't. I tried to restart
it, and it did but now the P3 broke off after the firmwarecheck. I
got nervous and opened the machine again, and then got really
frightened for there was a smell of burning electronics inside my
machine. After some researche I found out that r19, the 10R resistor
next to the trimpot, was burned out. So I soldered a new one in
place, resarted the machine, and all seemed to work again. But I felt
the resistor and it became really hot, and after some time the P3
stopped again. I checked the wiring, the PLED module (a PDC1602M),
but I didn't see anything strange. I have a 10R resistor from lead 2
to point 2 on the module, and a 10uF cap between point 1 and 2(-to1)
I hope someone got a suggestion, or that I did some little stupid
thing, cause it looked great and I can't wait to play again!!!!
Cheers,
Roel
