Although I don't yet have a P3, I've had an XT for quite a long time and can assure you that it would be a great partner for the P3.  Full parameter access via CCs, and there's a lot of parameters :)   Knobs are endless rotaries and there's lots of them.  Built-in effects are very useful, especially the MIDI sync'd ping-pong delays.

I spent a lot of time with the XT and SEQ-303 (software step sequencer).  Here's one noodling session I recorded live, straight from the XT outputs:

I was never satisfied by the XT's snares, but it can do killer kicks :)
