Midi data arriving at P3's midi input can optionally be passed through to
the output, but it is re-channelised to a single midi channel.
This function was originally just meant for passing data that was being
recorded in realtime, but the record functionality has since been extended
so the channelisation while recording is automtically set to the channel of
the track being recorded on.
Chiel had asked if the non-record mode midi thru could be set to pass data
on it's original channel - which is entirely possible, but I hadn't thought
of it (since the purpose of midi thru had changed since the first
implementation).
In the next release, the 'mthru' setting will have a choice of 'off',
channel 1 to 16 and 'any'.

Cheers,
Colin f

I see, thanks.

This sounds like a very important addition, because it would
allow one to insert the P3 anywhere in a MIDI network,
without disturning the standard functionality.

well...not that important in practice. it's more of a studio-thingy;
due to the 'live'-nature of the P3 it pretty much acts as the main
sequencer around here. it's when i'm trying to build an actual track,
complete with build-up an'all (something i haven't been doing a lot
of since my P3 arrived) that i have my pc as a main sequencer,
firstly just recording a lot of midi off the P3, and then cutting &
pasting & arranging to make an actual track. it's then occassionaly
handy to have the few kind-of finished tracks playing from pc,
running through the P3 so i can try out different bits & tracks and
record them to the arrangement in the pc if i like them. but as i
said, the P3 is mostly the midi-boss around here.
