P3 v3 gives you 384 patterns equally divided among the number of banks you
have chosen.
So in 3 bank mode, you get 16 patterns per track, 6 bank mode gives 8
patterns per track, and 12 bank mode gives 4 patterns per track.
The number of patterns per track is fixed, so there can be space wasted if
you don't use all tracks, or all patterns on a given track.
If you don't know what I mean about 'bank modes', there is a power-on method
of re-allocating memory in three different ways.
Check the manual for details.
With v4, 16 banks are always available.
With the standard memory, you have the same 384 bars for patterns shared
between the 16 banks.
This is more flexible than v3 in that if you don't use too many bars in most
banks, you can use a lot more in one or two that need it.
Tracks that aren't used free up pattern space for other tracks.
If you use all 16 banks, and all 8 tracks, you average 3 bars of pattern per
track.
With v4 and a memory expansion board, you still have 16 banks, but each bank
has its own dedicated 224 bars of storage space.
So every single bank could have a part with 16 bar patterns on every track,
another with 8 bar patterns and another with 4 bar patterns before you used
all the memory.
