program changes coming through p3 not working as expected

program changes coming through p3 not working as expected

Hello fellow hardcore sequentixers,

This may be a rather random stab in the dark (it's a rather specific
problem), but I figure there's no better place to ask...

I'm sending program changes from Ableton through P3 to my various
synths, as it's easier to have a live set arranged this way (for me).

I am able to send both single & multi prog changes to Virus B (thru
P3), but for some unknown reason my Nord 3 is misbehaving.
After some testing, I've determined that it seems like something is
being filtered in the P3's midi thru (very strange since it still
works on the Virus)...
My Nord can receive single prog changes (thru P3), but not
'performance' changes (aka multis). If I plug the midi cable direct
from my soundcard to Nord, it works; but going thru the P3, not so :(.
As I stated, this is only for performance prog changes.
(I have the global channel set up correctly on the Nord, as proved by
skipping the P3 in my midi chain).

I'm running V3.1.007b on my P3

Has anybody else (this is the long shot part) had similar experiences,
or can Collin perhaps offer some insight as to why my midi signal is
acting in such a manner?

Any help is hugely appreciated! I'm preparing for my performance at
SPARK festival of electronic music & art in a little over a week, and
if I can't figure this out I suppose I can always borrow a friend's
4x4 midi interface rather than going thru P3. But I'd prefer to simply
run thru P3 (and just understand this behavior anyhow).

Thanks much,
josh/heckadecimal

Hella hells yes!
I figured it out :D

I had the nord global midi channel set to ch 16, which was also set to the
'special midi channel' for P3 remote control; thus changing the part # in P3
rather than thru-ing to prog change the performance # of the nord.

OK thanks for helping me figure that out...
I couldn't have done it without our collective conscience. ;-D

...Of course this is all in the manual (RTFM is my motto!)
but I'd never used the remote control midi channel before with the P3 (on
purpose anyways)

So let it be known: if your 'special' midi remote control channel is set to
the same midi channel as the global channel on a synth, it's gonna act
funny...
still weird how it would change the single progs but not the performances
(multis) but I'm just happy to have figured it out.

OK, carry on!
