p3 stuck notes

2009-11-13 by conorshanley

Hi folks

I just received a p3 yesterday, love the unit but I and ran into a stuck note issue about 2 minutes after turning on!

When I made my first sixteen note pattern on track one then a second on track two, if the note for the same step was the same on both tracks - track one would become stuck until I changed the note on track two!

Is this a known issue with a fix?

Any help would be appreciated ...

- Conor

There is no bug that would cause this that I'm aware of.
Which version of the OS are you running ?
I assume in this case you are transmitting both tracks on the same MIDI
channel ?
In which case, both the tracks will be sending a note on for the same note,
on the same channel and both tracks will also send a note off when their
note finishes.
But the behaviour of receiving instruments is not well defined for the case
where the same note on is received twice, for the obvious reason that it is
impossible to do with a MIDI keyboard.
If you have some software that lets you monitor the MIDI stream (MIDIOx on
PC), you should be able to check that the second note off is not missing.
In which case, it is most likely the receiving device that isn't handling
the double note on correctly.

Hi Colin

I should have mentioned that the tracks are sending on different midi channels to different monotimbral devices.

The OS is v4, also, it said v3.3 at one stage during the boot up then it says v4.

But yesterday instead of the 3.3 screen, it went to a screen that says check sum failed followed by four characters and an option to boot or flash.

Ah. Weirder.

The v3.3 refers to the bootloader.
The checksum error means the main program image on the ROM has become
corrupt.
It's possible that might have something to do with the odd behaviour.
Download the firmware in .syx or .mid file format from here:
http://www.sequentix.com/sq_download.htm
...then re-flash the P3 with it.
Just ask if you don't know how to go about sending it the file.

Hi Colin

The firmware reload fixed everything.

Thanks for your help.
