troubleshooting recently acquired unit

2010-05-22 by jesusgollonet

Hi everybody. First message here.

I just happily got a p3 sequencer in good aesthetic condition, but it has a couple of problems I've seen so far, and I was wondering if you guys could help me troubleshoot them to see if they are misunderstandings, I can fix them myself o there are parts that I can order.

1. the screen won't turn on. I've seen some messages around here and the LCD screens on sequentix.com and I guess it's just an old PLED which stopped working. That's fairly straightforward, but I was wondering if there's anything I can do to test it to double check before ordering the replacement.

2. the stop button doesn't seem to work. Play does work and most of the other keys seem to do something (being unfamiliar with the unit and not having the screen makes it difficult for me to know what's going on), but stop doesn't stop the leds... Is there anything I could do to make sure this is the case? And if not, how could I get a replacement keyboard? I haven't seen it on the webpage.

That's it for now. The unit looks gorgeous and I'm diying to put it to good use.

Thanks a lot!
Jesús.

Wow, thanks Paul for the ultrafast response. Func+stop (I don't have a shift key) does the trick. Great news!!

Then it's just the screen I guess. Still, is there a way to be completely sure?

Thanks!
jesús

You may have enabled Safe Stop mode but cos of the screen can't see the
message. Shift and stop should do it if so (and if my memory is working).

Paul's thinking of a different sequencer.

I think you can be 99.99% sure.
The PLED displays were 'ahead of their time'. i.e. failure prone.

LCD replacement kits are on the Sequentix web site, here:

(scroll down the page if you have a small window)

LOL, so I was. Doesn't take long to lose one's faculties eh?

BTW rare success today - managed to successfully explain how envelopes
should work to one out of the two softsynth companies I'm pestering.
Makes me wonder how the hell *you* understand me dude since these bods
clearly can't!

I initially misread that as "organic hippopotamus" and thought: I've met Paul, and that's a bit unfair.

Met? Why darling, I thought we meant so much more!

The bigger question: Jason King - hip or camp?

Mmmm smoky Sundaes...
