Cirklon update

2010-06-14 by colinfraser_com

Hi Folks,

I have the first of the quotes back for the factory Cirklon enclosures.
Seems pretty good too.
That would put me in the position of being able to get production started, if I could decide on the final details.
So I posted up a new poll on colour.
I'm undecided at the moment between the black of the later protoypes and the silver of the first prototype.
Silver would give a family resemblance to P3, though I'm not sure if that matters.
Let me know what you think.

Best regards,

Construction will be much the same as P3 - folded aluminium sheet, with a
paint (or powder-coat) finish.
Rather than having the inset sockets as on the P3, there is a re-locatable
rear panel for all I/O, that can be fixed to the rear or the underside of
the case for desktop or rackmount use.

There is an image of the enclosure design here:

Hi Colin

could this rear panel could also be mounted as a 19" panel in a rack?
That would be incredibly flexible

I voted black. It looks great with the dark screen and contrasting buttons.

You would need to keep the cable length to the USB and SD-card sockets down
to reduce the chance of emitting RF noise.
With suitable shielding, it should be possible.

thanks Colin

very interesting, I'd like to use the Cirklon as a common source for a
modular synth and an Andromeda so I reckon having the panel racked next
to the modular and easily patchable could be a very convenient an
spontaneous way of working...

and having CV from the modular going into the Cirklon which could
modulate the pattern, or the way the pattern is playing would be a dream...

Why wouldn't you just use a patch bay?

well, seems like a detachable rear panel already is a patchbay? And the
midi is there too...

Hi Colin,

Very clever case design for table top or rackmount ;-)

I find myself not caring that much. They're both good. Now, if some
hideous color (say, bright green) were available, that would be great.

Just really excited that this is getting so close.....
