Re: difference between comb filter and roland analogue chorus???

2003-04-27 by piperplaysynth

Hi Bakis

I used to own a Juno 6 many years ago. The chorus on it was stereo and
had 2 fixed settings. I too, thought it was very warm and nice. I have
suggested a stereo patch (below) which should generate some very good
chorus effects and a whole lot more using the A.S. comb filter
modules. You can also make use of this in mono if you use only one
comb filter and skip the inverter.

I hope this is a help:-)

The comb filter module is not actually a chorus unit but it can be
made to produce chorus-like effects. To get a stereo chorus, you will
need two comb filter modules, an LFO and an inverter (you can use the
buffer module as an inverter).

Use the triangle wave of the LFO and input it to the buffer module.
(set the freq control to a slow cycle).
Take one output from the buffer to the CV vari input (don't use too
much level here) of one of the comb filters. Take the inverted output
to the other comb filter.

Input your sound (signal) to a jack multiple and then to the input of
both comb filters. Also feed the input signal from the multiple to
one of the input chanels on your mixing desk and set the pan to
centre.
The outputs of the comb filters should be fed to the desk and panned
hard left and right. !!! check the input levels to the desk !!! (sorry
but I'm safety mad).

The interaction between the comb filters and the original signal will
cause you to hear a wide stereo effect. You have to play around with
the settings until you hear the desired effect (for chorus, keep the
settings of both comb filters the same) - or find some new very cool
ones!

Playing with this patch is such good fun:-)

Dave.
