Analogue systems

I've been playing with the 
internal LFO of the RS290 and
I notice it modulates delay 
parameters more smoothly that
an external CV.  Is this due
to the external CV being sampled
and converted to data to be 
processed by the DSP?  This is
not a complaint, I am just curious.
