Analogue systems

hello, although i have keyboard experence, i am new to the use of 
modular synths. i am looking to purcahse an analogue systems french 
connection within the next six months. i have been told that i will 
need a VCA, a VCO, an envelope generator, and a houseing unit for 
these modules, in addition to the controler itself. if this is the 
case, what other modules would be recomended, if any. also i am  
curious, i can run the vca into an amplifier or mixer, correct?
