Yes, the ring on the French Connection is a bit large but it never 
seemed to be much of a problem for me.  Because there are "bumps" on the 
  strip below the ring that help guide your finger to the right pitches. 
  You might check with a jeweler to see if they have an insert that 
might make the ring a bit tighter for you if you find it is a problem.

Your point about the keyboard vs. the slider on the VC out is valid but 
since the French Connection is a VC keyboard, it might be difficult to 
mix the slider and keyboard voltages in a way that made logical sense. 
Unlike a ribbon controller that can provide a relative pitch depending 
on the initial touch point, the slider is always relative to the bottom 
end so it can't be used to add a bit of slide or vibrato to the 
keyboard, unfortunately.

The FC is a very cool controller, despite its limitations.  I think you 
will like it.
