french connection mod

2008-08-25 by Monroe Eskew

Hey all,

I just successfully completed an easy modification of the French
Connection to enable better staccato with the button, as seen in this
demonstration of an Ondes Martenot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy9UBjrUjwo

As it is sold, the button will make a strong percussive sound if
released very quickly or tapped, reverberating through the chamber of
the controller. But if you appropriately cut some strips of
polyurethane foam and place them in the sides of the button, this
sound will be extremely dampened, and it will no longer interfere
heavily with the sound of staccato notes. No glue is necessary if the
pieces are cut to fit, as they can sit in between some side panels of
the button casing and not move about. But gluing probably wouldn't
hurt if you want to make sure its stable.

Cheers,
Monroe
