RE: [spam] [analogue_systems] Spawn & pod
2004-09-08 by David Salter
Hi Maz, I have no idea about the availability of the Pod however what I can hypothesise about it's functionality based on the original designs that Spawn and Pod were based on. Several years ago Andy Pledger produced a synth (under the SMS brand) called MARS, this was a 1U rack mount module containing an LFO, VCO, LPF, ADSR and VCA. What is really nice is that all the CV's, gates, in's and out's between each section is available as sockets on the back. If you turn down certain attenuators the synth becomes a modular. In fact there is more functionality in modular mode, i.e the LFO becomes volltage controllable with two extra waveshapes. Aving the sockets on the back is obviously a pain. Andy's idea was always that this was an expandable system so he also produced the Planet 7, a 2U rack that not only brought the sockets of 2 MARS units to the front (like a simple patch bay) but added mixers, noise, ring mod, attenuators, inverters plus a few others (all independent elements with sockets). So two MARS syths and a Planet 7 = a really nice little modular (this is the configuration I have). Spawn is a upgraded MARS (extra sub osc, Midi interface , extra envelope functions. I assume that Pod was going to be an expander like the Planet 7. Not much help but my 2 cents. Have you tried asking Bob what his plans are? Hi.
I bought an AS Spawn synth a year or so back which I integrate into a
doepfer setup. I keep checking back to the website to see if theres
any news about the POD expander module, but there never is.
Does anyone know if its gonna be made or if its been shelved? I'm
curious to know what they plan to put in it.
Cheers for any info,
maz
