I've done some further research; all in all I've found the following 3
more or less separate problems (the first 2 we've already discussed):

1. the knobs are all over the place; under a DPI of 115% they look
like they are the work of a drunk baboon.

2. the fixed-width columns.

3. the checkbox lists in the BCL options dialog box: each time you
open the box, the checkbox list decreases by one item, until they are
reduced to only a flat line...!

I still don't know if I'll be able to fix any or all of these problems
in the upcoming version 1.6.0. For now, I've simply made BC Manager
refuse to run if the DPI is anything other than 96, which is of course
not really a solution at all.
I'll see what I can do.
