thanks for the reply...

i'll open it up today and see if i can get a picture or more info from a visual. it does also run on batteries [3AA which would be 4.5 volts by my oh so advanced math mind...].

but is it safe to say that it is unlikely that if i put 9v dc into it will fry something? if i deliver dc into a rectifier with the pos on the wrong side can that fry it? again, apologies for my electronic ignorance. i know enough to use words like 'rectifier' in a sentence and kinda know what they mean, but not much more... :)
