Re: Program Bcr2000 from am opened synth editor

2013-07-18 by Royce

Hi
Vyzex is a single synth editor by the makers of Midiquest.

They also make an editor for the EWI4000 that I have.

The Venom can use CC (continuous controller) messages like the EWI which makes it easy to program the BC, but if you change the channel on the Venom you have to change your patch on the BC.

When the Venom team ran out of CC numbers they used RPN (Registered Parameter Numbers) and NRPN (non-registered) mainly for the effects and the BC can handle these easily.

So the ideal system would be that the BC controls both the Venom and the Editor.
The Editor controls both the BC and the Venom.
The Venom controls both the BC and the Editor.

According to a quick read of the manual you can send and receive Midi on both the USB and Midi ports and the same time.

Put the BC in Mode S-1.
Connect the Venom to BC Midi In plug and BC Midi Out A (obviously, Midi Out on one device goes to Midi In on the other)

Select the Venom USB for the In and Out in the editor as normal.

My guess is that if the Venom puts out a CC value, the corresponding control on the editor moves and the CC is output to the BC via the Midi port keeping the BC encoder in sync.

I am hoping if the Venom receives the CC from the BC it passes it on to the USB and the Editor.

Finally, when the editor puts out a CC message to the Venom, the Venom echos to the BC.

   Midi connections

Venom --> Editor
      \-> BC

BC --> Venom -->Editor

Editor --> Venom --> BC

So program one of the encoders on the BC for CC74 with the same channel as the Venom and a range of 0 to 127 and display 1-dot.

If there is a control on the Venom that sweeps the VCF frequency, try that and see if the editor and the BC change.

Change the Editor VCF frequency and see if the BC changes as well as the Venom.

Twist the BC encoder with the CC74 and see if the Venom and Editor change.

If there is a problem you may need to have something like MidiOx (if you have a PC) to do the echoing of Midi.

All the best
Royce

I know the venom is not capable of sending midi trough midi ports and usb (needed for editor) at the same time. Is there a preset? or do I have to start from scratch to create my own template? Thanks
