I think MS thinks Midi is dead

2016-10-16 by rpcfender@...

or at least is trying to make it so.

They seem to have hidden all the Midi stuff from the Control Panel apparently ordinary folk are too dumb to work such things..

They now have a new api (application interface) and although the old one is still there, I think they will push very hard to remove it.

Remember they are folk that took the excellent Midi standard and started stripping capabilities from it, like running status (makes it faster and uses less data traffic) and sysex greater than 255 bytes with the results that have caused us grief for many years.

Despite this fact that the Midi standard has been there for more than 30 years. Let me know if you can think of many things of MS code still remaining. Oh yes DOS, no wait, that was someone else's work.

Let's wait and see.

Despite this, more and more non-music applications are appearing.

Today I welcome a new BCR owner who has joined us and they are using it to edit photos in Adobe Lightroom.

Apparently a rock solid (albeit slow but today's standards) protocol still is useful.

(Where is OSC now ?? I thought it might have taken over)

Over to your comments.

All the best
