Using BCR2000 To Control Kawai XD5

Using BCR2000 To Control Kawai XD5

2006-03-19 by bvs9000

Hello,
I've built a MIDI drum rig that consists of PC MIDI OUT > Yamaha DTXpress2 Kit MIDI OUT > BCR2000 MIDI OUT > [Kawai XD5 THRU >; Digitech DSP128 THRU > Digitech DSP128], BCR2000 MIDI THRU > [Novation Drumstation MIDI THRU > MAM ADX1 MIDI OUT] > PC. I've also routed some of the individual drum sounds out to the DSP128s and other various effect units: 2x 2Way Crossover, 2x 15 band EQs, 2x Analog Delays, 2x Comp/Limiters, and an 11 band Vocoder. I'm using an RX1602 to mix the resulting signals down to a Stereo Output connected to my Master Mixer.

I want to use BCR2000 to control XD5 parameters. XD5 drum sounds have synth-like parameters that can be adjusted with push-button and data slider methods, or via MIDI Control Change Numbers (CC#s) but I can't figure out how to assign those CC#s to the BCR knobs. XD5's manual shows a strange list of CC#s that doesn't show the parameters they are associated with. You can see it for yourself on page 53 of the PDF at http://www.kawaius-tsd.com/OM/MODULE%7E1/XD-5.PDF. Here's an example of the parameters I want to adjust: I want to adjust the decay of Kick Drum 1 with a BCR knob. If I set the BCR and XD5 to the same MIDI channel and assign CC# 75 every knob, nothing happens to the Decay of any drum sound.

I need to know how to setup BCR to learn the correct CC# of each parameter, and how to get XD5 to transmit them. Will BCR be able to learn CC#s from XD5's push buttons and data slider? If learn doesn't work, is there another way to reveal the XD5 CC#s?

Thank you,

BVS

download "bc edit" software from the behringer website, on the BCF/BCR page. ; you can use that software to assign CC#'s to the dials/buttons on your BCR.
As far as finding out which CC#'s to use for your particular synth/drum machine, i'd call tech support for you synth/drum machine if you can't find them listed anywhere

I should have stated I am already using BC Edit and that I want to
use it to learn the CC#s in question. How is that done?

on behrenger's website, or it comes with the bcedit software download, i
forgot which. look that over, if you have specific questions post back
