Problems with BC Manager (1.2.2) and BCR2000

2008-05-18 by sexontony

Dear Mark and BC Manager users,

thanks Mark for BC Manager and your efforts, I tried BC Manager 1.2.2 and so far it looks very useful.

Only I had problems sending the preset settings from BC Manager to my BCR2000 back.

Could anyone write step by step what I need to do to accomplish this transfer? (Sending preset data from BCR2000 to BC Manager works nicely, after I use Edit-Preset Right keys on the BCR2000.)

Do I have to press any buttons on my BCR2000 also to receive data from BC Manager? In another software (bcfredit.exe by birdie) no further key presses were necessary on the BCR2000.

What I did was:
- start BC Manager
- set the correct midi devices for input and output (USB Audio Device)
- my BCR2000 is in U1 mode
- select preset 32 on my BCR2000
- select preset 32 on "BC Manager.BCR2000: Presets"-window and then in this window selecting menu MIDI.Send

The result is the window "BCR2000: send preset 32" appears with some info (Lines to send: 831 (22393 bytes) but the sending process does not continue, it just remains in this state.

Do you have any ideas what could be the reason for this behaviour?

Kind regards,
Tony

Hi Tony.

I have had the same problem as well. Actually, I think it is an USB
Mode problem.
Now I use my BCR and BC Manager per Midi- in/out. Switch your BCR2000
into "S4 - Mode". Change the BC Manager-options into Midi - mode (the
right in/out settings are important)

For that way. You need a Midibox (like a "USB Midi Sport 1x2 - M-
Audio") or you use your gameport with a Midi- in/out adapter.

Now it works perfectly :)

Try it.

Hi Norris,

thanks for the idea over the normal midi in/out. But if possible I
would like to use the USB connection to keep the midi in/out of my
soundcard free for other hardware synthesizers.

I also didn't mention in my previous posting that I am using the BCR
drivers "BCF_BCR2000-1.1.1.1" and now instead of "USB Audio Device"
it shows in a "better way" "BCR2000 [01]" but the problem is still
the same.

Could anyone get the BCR2000 working with BC Manager also via the USB
interface? If yes, which drivers did you use (in Windows XP) and
further step by step instructions for BC Manager please?

Maybe its just a question of setting the parameters right in BC
Manager like in the menu.Options.Midi devices."Timer tab"
- Resolution (msec) (default: 1)
- Gauges.Window (csec) (default: 40)
- Gauges.Update frequency (csec) (default: 10)

If nothing else will work I will try out the Norris-way.

Kind regards,
Tony

Hi Norris,

I have some good news (at least also for you), updating to the last
BCR2000 driver "BCFBCR2000v1213" from here: http://www.behringer.com/
_software/BCFBCR2000v1213.zip solved my problem. Now it seems that
the transfer back to BCR2000 also works nicely.

Kind regards and thanks again to Mark, now I can start testing this
interesting looking application,
Tony

No, you don't have to do anything on your BCR, except that you have to
make sure that it's not in Global Setup mode (in which case it doesn't
receive ANYTHING).

This should be unnecessary.

Well, BC Manager's "send preset"-routine uses a handshaking protocol:
it sends a message, then waits for the BCF/BCR to confirm that
message's reception before sending the next message. But of course
this doesn't tell us what exactly is wrong.

Did you try pressing the "Receive Identity" button? If that also
didn't work, that would be further indication of a basic problem with
the handshake connection.

In view of your later message mentioning the newer USB driver solving
the problem, it might indeed have been a problem with the older
drivers (Windows' "USB Audio Device", possibly Behringer's own
1.1.1.0/1 as well). I must admit that I've only tested BC Manager with
1.2.1.3 (and never had any problem with it, at least not in this
respect). I'll see what happens when I revert to the other drivers.

By the way, the upcoming BC Manager 1.3 will include an autodetection
feature, which should facilitate working with any USB driver.

The Timer tab has absolutely nothing to do with this problem. (It only
affects the MIDI meter windows.)

Mark.
