BC Manager 1.5.0 released!

BC Manager 1.5.0 released!

2008-07-17 by Mark van den Berg

Hi everyone!

BC Manager 1.5.0 is now available from the "Applications\BC Manager"
folder in the BC2000 Yahoo group's file section.

This new version has LOTS of new features and improvements, so
basically it's an essential upgrade for anyone using the program.

Some highlights:

Several improvements to MIDI I/O handling, which should solve many
people's autodetection problems (concerning "Invalid model" error
messages etc.). E.g.:
- The B-Control detection routines now identify MIDI feedback loops.
- BC Manager now works around a bug in the Behringer's Windows XP USB
drivers that previously could cause a freeze of the first USB-based
BCF/BCR MIDI input device after the "MIDI devices" dialog box was
closed via the OK button.
- Much more economical use of RAM concerning MIDI input devices.

B-Control data handling:
- "Set" operations are now available for ALL standard output parameters.
- Cross-element-type pasting, i.e. pasting button data to an encoder etc.
- Improved BC data handling concerning empty comment lines, the
Default parameter, GS/XG parameters and MMC frame rate.
- Compare presets and elements.

In the MIDI input messages window:
- Customizable display formats for recorded bytes.
- Save recorded MIDI messages (e.g. snapshots) to a standard MIDI file.

See the "Version history" section in the accompanying manual for all
the details on the changes in version 1.5.0.

As usual, you can install directly on top of any previous version.

Enjoy!

Mark.

Excellent work Mark!

I have posted it on the page as well as pumping it on KVR.
Love the way it opens(detects) and closes (much faster cleanup).

I have not had a chance to play with in any intensity, it yet.
Soon.

Thanks, as always!

By the way, I checked just before I uploaded 1.5.0 how many people had
downloaded 1.4.0 from your website: 175.
So let's see how far 1.5.0 gets before someone finds a bug that forces
me to publish 1.5.1 ...

Question: what are your and other people's experiences concerning
which download site works faster: the Yahoo group or your mirror?

I do know that UPLOADING BC Manager to the Yahoo group takes about 5
1/2 minutes - more or less independent of the speed of my own internet
connection, so those 5 1/2 minutes may be because the Yahoo host is in
the USA and I'm in Europe or so.

A few months ago I considered putting BC Manager at the Wiki site
instead of the Yahoo site (assuming that BC Manager wasn't too big for
that anyway), but then there was a discussion in the Yahoo group about
the Wiki site being slow, so I never looked into that option any
further. I recently saw that the Wike site has a link to your BC-page,
so that's good.

> Love the way it opens(detects) and closes (much faster cleanup).

"Closes"? I suppose you mean the termination of BC Manager as a whole
- I hadn't looked into that at all, actually, but I suppose that the
increased closing speed you've noticed is a result of the fact that an
enabled MIDI input device doesn't take up 2 MB of RAM any more (only
128 kB) - you must have a lot of MIDI input ports (via MIDI Yoke I
presume) if closing works that much faster!

Hey,

Yeah, I check before taking 1.4.0 down @ 177.
1.5.0 currently at 25.

My experience is you can track from the mirror and not from yahoo.
My site is up "most" of the time, however, not all the time.
The free service www.110mb.com has issues sometimes, hard drives
crashing... etc.
I don't have a good indication on uptime.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
