Using BCR with hardware: Is U-2 or U-3 the bridge?

2006-05-18 by bvs9000

I've connected Roland W-30 to BCR so I can play and tweak VSTi via
MIDI/USB. BCR sees MIDI from W-30 but does not pass it on to VSTi. BCR
knobs send to VSTi but I can't play notes with W-30.
The VST host (Chainer) uses only to one MIDI input at a time (BCR or W-
30) when connected seperately to soundcard MIDI or PC USB.
How do I configure BCR to relay MIDI play through (OUT) its USB port
and on to the PC?

In the User's Manual, modes U-2 and U-3 are described as the correct
settings for using a MIDI keyboard and BCF/R knobs to control VST
synths via USB however, with those settings I would have to manually
switch the host's MIDI Input to either BCR2000 (knobs) or BCR2000 MIDI
A (keys) whenever I want to turn the knobs and play notes with the
keyboard.
After hours of frustration from selecting the BCF/R Mode according to
the descriptions in the manual and sifting through the settings of my
MIDI keyboard and wasting time waiting for an answer from here, I've
finally found the correct BCF/R Mode which is U-4.
I didn't think to try it because U-4 is described only as the setting
used to connect two BC units yet it is also the only setting that
allows me to use a MIDI keyboard and BCF/R at the same time without
having to change the host's MIDI port settngs. I would have only spent
5 seconds to set the mode instead of 5 hours had the User's Manual
described the U-4 function completely.
