B-Control Series Editor on MacOSX 10.6.2

B-Control Series Editor on MacOSX 10.6.2

2010-02-07 by Matt Mower

Hi.

I've just noticed that the controls, for each encoder group of my
BCR-2000, seem to be set to the same midi CC. I wanted to use the
B-Control Series Editor (bcedit) app to see how the thing is
configured and setup the other encoder groups but it's not finding my
device at all.

I have firmware 1.10, I'm running OS X 10.6.2, I have the device
connected via USB and it works well enough in Ableton Live and
Reaktor.

But when I click "Scan" bcedit goes off into a world of its own, never
to return it seems.

Anyone had any success with this thing? Is it being updated (0.2b3
isn't the most promising version number)? Is there an alternative?

Regards,

Matt

I use mine with Windows, so I can't speak on how BCEdit works on a Mac, but it is junk on Windows. On Windows we're using BC Manager, which is an application a member here wrote. Unfortunately it is Windows only.

As far as BC Edit goes, IMHO it is abandon ware, as it has been mothballed for years.

For myself, if I ever run BCEdit, I know that one of the things I need to do is have the exact version of the Java runtime installed that BC Edit says it requires. (is it 1.4 I don't remember off the top of my head) If I remember correctly, I needed to have the version of the JRE installed that BCEdit requires, and I also needed to not have any other versions of the JRE installed. In Windows (not sure about OSX) one can install different versions of the JRE and have them run side by side, and you can explicitly set which version a program will with. I found that even if I specified the correct version, if I had another version of the JRE installed BCEdit didn't work (and behaved similar to how you are describing).

My advice to you would be to install Parallels or Fusion, set up your Mac so you can run Windows, and then run BC Manager.

Sorry, I wish I had better news for you.

Jeff

I have Fusion, I'll give BC Manager a try. Actually I also have
CrossOver, I wonder if it'd work under that.

Not in the least, at least I can stop wasting my time with it & try
something that might work. Thanks for the tip-off :)
