BC Manager 2.1.0 released!

BC Manager 2.1.0 released!

2010-09-23 by Mark

Hi everyone!

After a long time, there's finally a new version of BC Manager.

Its main new features:

- Up to 4 virtual displays showing the text messages which certain MIDI applications send to Mackie Controls. (This works rather like Huskervu.)

- For the BCF2000 in emulation mode (except bhuI): a virtual display showing the text messages which the BCF outputs. (This works rather like BCFview.)

- A global setup history window. This allows you to view and edit the BCF/BCR's internal global setup history.

- A column in the presets window showing the currently used data size.

For a full list of the changes, see the accompanying manual.

There is also a new version of "BC MIDI Implementation.pdf", containing minor improvements.

For further details and downloading, go to the Mountain Utilities website at http://home.kpn.nl/f2hmjvandenberg281/ .

Enjoy!

Mark van den Berg.

Hi Mark,

Great work. Must have been a chore to get this far.

One thing that's a real deal breaker for me though is not being able to type in Ch and CC numbers using my qwety number keys.... For me, having to use a dial with a mouse is just as time consuming as doing it on the controller!

Have I missed a way of inputting it? Those text boxes are begging for a double click edit....

Would certainly make a donation if this was the case but at the moment it's not actually helped me speed up the programming process.

All the best,

Matt.

If you press Alt + Enter, a dialog box pops up where you can type the value.
For other useful keyboard shortcuts, see the manual, section 20.
There's also a rather long discussion on mouse vs. keyboard in the FAQ section on pp. 75-76.

Hope this helps,
    Mark.

Thanks Mark,

I did it with the mouse in the end, which was a pain in the a**e but I was lying about it taking longer to do it manually.

And it wasn't your fault that I couldn't be bothered to wade through the manual.

I made a donataion, thanks for your efforts.

I'll make another one if I can import xls spreadsheets. ;)

Cheers,

Matt.

A year or 2 ago there was quite a bit of discussion about mouse vs. keyboard related to BC Manager's knobs (as reflected in the manual on pp. 75-76). Opinions were divided, so I left things as they were, but I'll be the first to admit things aren't ideal.

After your complaint yesterday I fiddled a bit with the knobs in BC Manager, and I must say that I could use the mouse without thinking in most cases. So I suppose it's partly a matter of getting used to it. (Note that widening the radius while you keep the mouse button pressed increases the resolution.)

In any case BC Manager's knobs are more capable than the knobs you usually see in music software (e.g. Propellerhead Reason): in BC Manager you can "select" (focus) a knob (hence: "tab" through the knobs), and you can edit a knob via the computer keyboard, whereas in most music software you can only manipulate all those exotic knobs via the mouse.

When I released BC Manager 1.0, people complained about the LACK of documentation, but I agree that the large size of the manual is starting to become a problem!
So maybe it's time for a "Quick Start" guide, or a "Tip of the Day" dialog box on program startup. Or maybe a dialog box listing all keyboard shortcuts, accessible via the Help pull-down menu.
It's almost a paradox: to make things easier for users, I have to provide even MORE information!

Thank you very much!

Not yet, haha...
But actually it's not THAT weird a suggestion. I suppose that in theory the editing power of a professional spreadsheet program like Excel could be useful for B-Control data in certain cases. But I can't immediately see how that would work in practice.

Best wishes,
Mark.
