noOS problem (know the fix, but not working for me!)

2011-01-13 by Sam

Hi guys, got the 'noOS' problem and have connected my unit to my computer via USB to MIDI connected, installed midiox and got the relevant firmware I want to install to the device. I have connected the midi 'out' from the PC to the 'in' on the BCF and vice versa. When opening midiox it has no recognized outputs, therefore leaving me unable to dump the sysex. The only other device connected (by usb not midi) to the computer is my evolution keyboard. Please help, I am getting really annoyed with controlling programs with the mouse and hit a brick wall. Any help is appreciated!!!

Also, just to add the drivers for the device aren't on my PC, so if I try to install the usb/midi drivers from Behringer it asks me to connect the device half way through installation, again the computer does not recognize the device in 'noos' mode or 'load' mode so cannot get the drivers on there?!?

BCR 2000, is plug'n'play and that's all you need to do. On my PC, I plugged in the USB cable: new device found/installed, finito....It is recognized by windows XP. I would disable, (not turn it on) MIDI OX until you install BCR, and then BC editor. Drivers etc are on Behringer site, just copy them on desktop...hope you get it going..

If you use USB cable, you don't usually use other midi cable to PC, to other units yes. Then activate the USB-1 mode on BC, (it is in the manual )

Hi, thanks for the response but the device is not being picked up via USB at all by my PC so this is not a possible solution. Whilst it's displaying 'noOS' so I was told a sysex file would need to be dumped through a midi cable.

Why is it not recognized by your PC? Which OS? This is not normal

Running XP 32bit SP2 - It was working fine 'plug & play' but now it doesn't work at all and just displays "noOS". It's a problem with the firmware which is in theory reasonably simple to fix, but doesn't seem to be for me.

Re: noOS problem (know the fix, but not working for me!)

2011-01-13 by Mark

See a previous message thread about "noOS", in particular the bottom part of http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/bc2000/message/2337 .

In any case: under "noOS" you can't use USB at all.

So you should do the following:

1. Put the BCF in operating mode S-4.

2. Connect your computer's MIDI OUT to the BCF's MIDI IN.

3. Connect your BCF's MIDI OUT A to your computer's MIDI IN. (Whether this is necessary depends on the method you choose under point 4 below.)

4. Use one of the methods described in the above-mentioned message to upload the firmware. (See BC Manager's manual p. 37 for info about BC Manager's "Send firmware" operation.)

Good luck!
   Mark.
