bcr 2000:can't enter into the global setup

2011-02-22 by erika

hi i've bought a bcr2000 controller
i want to get into the global setup menu
i hold "edit" button and i press store, but nothing happens: if i do this "on" appears on the display, if i do it again, "off" appears on the display.

i've tried different preset. i've restarted holding store+ edit , but "load" appears on the display
what can i do?

First of all: see "BC MIDI Implementation.pdf" (available from http://home.kpn.nl/f2hmjvandenberg281/bc2000.html), sections 22 and 23, for handy tables and descriptions of all the available special button-pressing actions.

As you can see there, you can't enter Global Setup by holding EDIT and STORE while switching the unit on.
Actually, I don't understand how your display can say "LOAd" if you do this: "LOAd" should only appear when you hold STORE and LEARN.
So this MIGHT indicate that one of your buttons is defective.

In any case, you should power on the BCR normally, upon which the BCR's firmware version number (ideally "1.10") should appear briefly on the display, and then the display should settle to a preset number: "P-..".

Only THEN can you try to enter Global Setup mode:
hold EDIT, then press STORE.
If the display changes to "EG", you're in Global Setup mode.
There are two reasons why this might fail:

1. One of your buttons is defective; not very likely, but not unheard-of.

2. The preset selected on startup (as shown in the display) uses the function buttons (STORE, LEARN, EDIT and EXIT) as normal buttons, i.e. for sending MIDI data, not for special functions.
If this is the case, you should switch on the BCR while holding STORE and EXIT: the display then briefly shows "Init" after the firmware version number, and you get an empty preset in which the function buttons DO work as functions, so holding EDIT and pressing STORE should then work.

Hope this helps,
Mark.
