jx8p and dw8000

2011-09-01 by nicknak110756

Hi guys

i've just purchased my BCR2000 and am wanting to hook it up to these two synths.
my question is, can these synths be set up using the learn function on the BCR or not?

had a go and had no joy at all and presumed i was doing something wrong but can figure what

any info would be most appreciated

Thanks

Hi
the Learn function is very limited but you can program the BC to output sysex to control these synths.

Check out the files section here first. I have a DW6000 BCR preset
and there is probably a DW8K in there somewhere. There might even be a JX8p.

If not get my editor or Mark's editor at his web site and start programming.

All the best

Royce

Mark's editor is the BCManager: http://home.kpn.nl/f2hmjvandenberg281/bcman.html

I've created a preset for the Roland JX-8P which handles every parameter of the 8P. I haven't heard from anyone here that they actually tried it out, so I don't know how well other people can get along with it.
You'll need the BC Manager for it, which seems a bit daunting at first, but once you figure out how it works, it works very well!

You can find the preset here:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/bc2000/files/Presets/Roland%20JX-8P/

Have fun with it, it really brings out the best in the 8P!

PS: when the JX-3P Upgrade from KiwiTechnics is at v2 I'll also post my preset for that one.

Hi Folks.

i have finally got around to hooking my BCR controller up to my synths but im having an issue with the JX8p for some reason.
i have the BCR working a treat with my DW8000 and a couple of others synths but im not sure what im dojng wrong with the JX8p file.
the one i downloaded via the file section is a midi ox file and i have sent it via that programme and i can see it loading into the BCR but the synth is not responding at all.
do i need to convert it and send it via BC manager, if so how do i do this conversion?

any info would be most welcome?

Thanks

can someone please explain the procedure once i have downloaded the file

I can't say straight-away what's causing this.
In any case the most fundamental question is whether your BCR accepts the preset data.
If it does, the problem lies with the preset data itself in connection with your synth - I can't help you with that.
However, if the BCR does NOT accept the preset data, here are a few tips for making it do so:

I've noticed two things about the JX8P's syx file:

1. It expects your BCR to have its global Device ID set to 1, or else your BCR won't accept the data.

2. It stores the preset data in preset 16. (So after a successful upload, the display should say "P-16".)

Concerning your questions about BC Manager:

If you wish, you can convert bc2 files to syx files and vice versa via BC Manager's File -> Convert routines (from the main window).

However, this isn't necessary:

First of all, the bc2 file also uploaded by the author of this patch already provides a straightforward conversion from the syx file (but, "obviously", without the Device ID).

Furthermore, BC Manager can work with both bc2 and syx files natively.
So you can simply open the bc2 or syx file in BC Manager (from the B-Controls window: File -> Open or Import), then send the preset to your BCR. (If BC Manager has recognized your BCR, this should automatically use the correct Device ID.)

Hope this helps,
Mark.

Have you tried using the BCR2000 in learn mode together with the JX-8P and also using the BCR2000 specific file posted rather than the MIDI-OX one?

You're not supposed to read the file, but rather transfer it over to the software.

'Transfer it over to the controller with a software' rather.

Are you using the BCManager software? that's really the best way to manage your BCR, and it also loads the preset I made. You can even move it to another preset, or globally change the MIDI channel with it. It has a bit of a learning curve, but nothing unfathomable!

Good luck getting it to work!
Rainer
