BCR2000 MIDI Setup question

BCR2000 MIDI Setup question

2012-11-10 by mingepotato

Hi,

I am a total newb here so please take it easy on me :)

I have just received my BCR 2000 and want to integrate it into my setup so that I can have presets that allow me to use the device to control and tweak any one of my devices whenever I wish and to able to record the sonic changes I make to my hardware synths with my DAW (SONAR producer 8).

All the setups in the book look nothing like mine because I have setup every midi device to have its own MIDI device as such with both a unique in and out.

So. Here is a simple version of my setup http://s7.postimage.org/i1f3qeyq3/setup.jpg

I do not seem to able to choose a destination anywhere for my preset on any software for the BCR? I would have thought that this would be the first option for a device like this as every other MIDI editor etc. that I have, has this on it's first boot up.

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible and what I am doing wrong here? I have yet to use my DAW in any of this and maybe that could help but I am at a total loss.

Any useful advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
If I was setting up your gear...I would just think of the BCR as knobs on your M-Audio controller. M-Audio keyboard out to BCR in...BCR thru to interface in...then select the output midi channel on your sequencer...but I like to keep things simple.

It seems you could setup the BCR as basically an interface for your sequencer and then route CC's from there. I'm not a big fan of having to have the computer in the loop all the time though...up to you...depends on how many channels you want.

I would say with the amount of gear you have and what you are trying to do...just build the presets with the appropriate midi channel on the encoders and keep the cabling simple.

I would put the Tetra on the same chain as your other racks, disregard the crappy usb interface and treat it like a regular synth.

If you want to use the BCR for controlling VST's and AU's then this is not the best way.

From looking at the manual, the BCR has a global receive channel only...the output channels are per encoder

please disregard my rambling if this does not apply.

I cannot believe it!

Because I was concentrating on using the BCR without my DAW to control my synths, my frustration was aimed at the BC Manager software coupled with the BCR itself for not seeming to be able to select a device (like my DAW would allow me to do when selecting a device to record).

When I used my DAW to aim the BCR at the Tetra, it worked! YAY!

I am happy enough for now that at least that works although I suppose that I was looking at the BC Manager software as being a 'software go-between' rather than an editor and dumper if you see where I was coming from?

Thanks!
