Longtime group member could use a little help

2018-06-27 by Al Heigl

Hi, folks --

I joined this group on July 18, 2005, and bought my Behringer BCF-2000 nine days later.

Since then, I've received, read, and enjoyed 5,443 posts. I've learned a lot from you guys.

However, now I have a problem of a different nature.

Lately, the display and all those lights on the BCF-2000 have helped me use it, but it's gotten very different on my DAW software.

I'm 73, and during the past year, my eyes have been developing cataracts -- a clouding of the lenses. I can still see, but everything's getting washed out and low contrast. Think of reading a newspaper or magazine printed with light gray ink. It's the same on my monitor -- boldface is more readable, regular, not so much.

Cataract surgery is very common and is generally a safe procedure, but with $649/month Social Security, I'll never be able to pay for it.

If any of you might have a spare five or ten bucks and could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

I've set up a GoFundMe page at:

I've also had a PayPal account for a few years:

Again, I'd be grateful for any help with this difficulty.

==========================================================

It's a safe assumption that this group is into music, so maybe I can repay you just a little bit. I've got some blues, folk, and rock I'm happy t share with you.

I've got a bunch of music projects, but one is a CD/download reissue of some vinyl I released in the '70s.

Back in 1972 a couple of friends helped me create a Minneapolis record label, Mill City Records.

MCR's first release was "Good Old Koerner Ray & Glover: Live Concert Recordings from the 1963 and 1964 St. Olaf Folk Festivals" which was later highlighted as a "Recording of Special Merit" by Stereo Review magazine. I also got a letter from the Library of Congress requesting a copy.

KR&G were on Elektra at the time, and I got written permission from them to release this album. (The Elektra albums are currently available on Red House.

The following year, MCR released three local-artist singles, produced by David Zimmerman.

In 1975, MCR released "Travelin'" by Twin Cities musician Billy Hallquist. Sales were good, and we also sold several hundred albums through one record store in Nagoya, Japan.

Over the last few years, it's become apparent that this digital music thing is not a fad, and Mill City Records is long overdue for re-releasing this music as CDs and digital downloads.

I've been working on this big project, and I've made progress.

There are four digital albums in this project:

"Good Old KR&G" (With a bonus track left off the original LP.)
"Travelin'" (With a cut song put back in.)
"Persephone" (Billy Hallquist's first, self-published album.)
"The '73 Singles" (A compilation of those three singles, with bonus tracks.)

So, here's one more link:

Just click on the album covers, and feel free to download any of the preview songs that look interesting.

(You can hear me on that 12-string on the two Travelin' songs -- 2 tracks on each song -- open-tuning and slide.)

Again, thanks.

Al
