YAHOO GROUPS CLOSING??

2019-10-17 by henschel@...

hey folks is there a way to archive all the files? It'd be nice to archive the group itself.

lets pipe up here and now; we probably only have a few weeks.

thanks!!!

I've been able to download the full group (including Files, photos, attachments and all).

I've explained how to do it on Gearslutz:

Cheers.

Can anyone download the data? I would like to grab it too without having to use github. Just a zip archive.

Thanks,
Caleb

Facebook groups allows file uploads, might be an option.

I've uploaded the full BC2000 group to my GDrive account (among other Yahoo Groups I am interested in).
You can choose the folder you need and just download it as a ZIP file:

Personally, I will not be joining any facebook group, or signing up for facebook at all.

There has been a discussion in the YamahaDX Yahoo group about moving to groups.io, and the admin of that group has now started the process.

Fees start from zero, for upto 1GB. To transfer a group using their tools takes a premium account, which is $120 per year, but a group can be downgraded after the first year, to a free one. It can probably be done manually though, apparently, with a free account.

groups.io has a fairly uncluttered user interface. A blind member of the YamahaDX forum said she found it okay for accessibility - unlike Google Groups. I suspect Facebook might be a problem for that too.

Here's a quote from the YamahaDX group, which I hope the author won't mind me reposting. It seems several related groups have already moved to groups.io:

"YamahaQY70AndQY100 has their Groups.io group up and running. Only 11 members so far. I’m not sure how big it is on Yahoo. VintageKorg is up with Polysix, Drums, MS-series and Tape subgroups. I believe MonoPoly will be added next. Poly800 is thinking about it.
The Polysix group did a GoFundMe to get the funds for a year of the premium service in order to get the migration tools to get everything from the Yahoo group. It took one day to get enough money. They started the new group as VintageKorg and made Polysix a subgroup...

Thanks, JA.

I'd downloaded a couple of groups manually, with a bit of help from the Down Them All plugin for Firefox, but mostly by sheer persistence. This group defeated me because there's so many little folders to go through.

Why not use Google Groups? It’s basically same as Yahoo Groups, also free and it can be easily integrated with the Google Apps suite (storage up to 15GB per account, Calendar integration, Google Sites integration, collaborative document editing, etc.) and a powerful API for complex operations.

Much more powerful than any other cloud-based tool and it’s completely free.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
