Cgs synth

hey folks,
I came across another option cd4538 mon stable chip. On The blacet
web site it shows this being used as a gate length control.
Any advantage of this over a 555 solution? App notes show a "non-
retriggerable mono stable...hmm I think this would ignore any clock
pulse until it completed its timing cycle.
