Analog Shift Reg (ASR) experience

2010-09-13 by Doug

I just finished my ASR and thought I'd share my experience.

Turns out the National LF356's I used were probably bootleg. They performed TERRIBLY. I temporarily replaced them with TL071's with OK results - nothing fantastic, but at least they hold fairly well for a second or so.

I don't recall who I bought them from but the markings are:

(National logo) JR69RB
LF
356N

Be careful if you happen to have this part for ANY purpose.

After troubleshooting that, I opted to replace the .047uf mylar film caps with .22uf. You know, those green "Chicklet" gum looking things. Not the best I know, but reasonable and cheap.

I'll let you all know once I try either a different batch of 356's or some 3140's.

Hope this helps someone else.

Cheers,

Doug
