Can't remember which LEDs I bought but I kind of did the opposite / bought clear lenses and colour LEDs - the colour is then less obvious until the LED is on. I thought it was a nice touch :)
I'm pretty sure I used all 3mm though. Where are you getting these 'non 3mm' from?

Are all LEDs white and you just take lense for the colour like here?
