Thanks for the suggestions Ken. I removed the wire coming from the input jack, the potentiometer and the wire going from the pot to the PCB (pad A). This was the problem zone. After testing and determining this I replaced both wires and the pot, wired them in (and added the Ground) and everything worked fine!
I've tested each of the parts I removed and can't find a problem. There was obviously something wrong when they were mixed together causing a short somewhere.
I think for the cost of a couple bits of wire and a pot I'll toss them though. Just to be safe : )
