The transformers are not too critical. A 3k impedence one actually measures
at around 250 ohms DC resistance on a multimeter. My really early (24 years
ago) ones actually used some really low impedence parts, and they still
worked. The reason we don't want low-imedence is the divider effect of a
synthesizer's 1k output resistor in line with a low impedence would cause a
significant signal drop.
