Gate Sequencer Pulse Outputs Problem

Gate Sequencer Pulse Outputs Problem

2005-10-02 by peng3002

The pulse outputs on my gate sequencer are putting out double
triggers. It makes some of my envelopes stutter. Any suggestions on how
to allieviate this? Hysteresis on the output op amps?

hmm,

I had a similar problem with the Burst Generator. It was very difficult
to track down. The solution was to replace the 4017 with a *Texas
Instruments* part. Some 4017 chips can internally retrigger. If you
have socketed these, it's an easy thing to try.

Thanks for the response Richard. I had done the chip swapping when
I had this on the breadboard and some 4017 would skip steps and
generally behave erratically. I'll try the TI one, but I'd like to
see if the circuit could be made to depend less on the type of chip
being used. back to the BB.
The gate and full outputs are fine. On a scope, it almost looks
like the stuttered pulse fires at the same time the Full output
falls. I'll keep experimenting.

Possible solution #2. If there is an LM358 in the input circuit, replace it
with a TL072. I'm finding that the LM358 have widely varying specs, and some
work, and some cause all sorts of weird grief.

This behaviour would suggest a capacitive coupling inside your envelope
generator. If that really is the case, the only cure would be to use a gate
to trigger converter between the two.

Otherwise, add some power rail decoupling caps around the output chips, one
the back of the PCB directly between the power pins, just in case it is a
PSU coupling issue.

And replace those LM358 with TL072.
