BC 547 / 2n3904 and lead reversal?

BC 547 / 2n3904 and lead reversal?

2002-08-11 by Jim Johnson

OK.. I just ordered a bunch of transistors to stuff in my Catgirl Synth
boards.. (I figure I'm not _really_ going to get moving on that project
until next year, but I think soldering boards would be a nice, mindless way
to escape from the stress of raising a two-year old, now and then)

Anyway: on Ken's site he mentions that the 2N3904 can be substituted for
the BC547, and the 2n3906 for the BC557 - but he thinks that the
substitutes might have reversed leads. I'm sensitive to this, because I
just botched a TR-909 repair for this very reason (Hi Trevor).

Can anyone confirm or deny that the leads are reversed on these
transistors?

They are reversed. Just put them in backwards. You can do a search for the
respective datasheets to put yourself at ease. I'm pretty sure I used those
in my Burst Generator, and it works great. (The rotary switch is
pcb-mounted, and it's kind of a nightmare behind the panel, otherwise I'd
check :)
