decoupling caps

decoupling caps

2009-10-11 by Andrew Scheidler

For 100n decoupling caps I usually use the little box-shaped poly ones. But I'm running out of those and realized I have several dozen of them in "disk" form.

Will those work just as well?

thanks :)
Drew

Yes, ceramic disc capacitors will actually work better than poly box
caps due to their lower inductance. I use axial ceramic, myself.

Hi Drew,

This is my first post here, but if your only going to use the disk types for power suppy decoupling, they are perfect for the task and generall alot cheaper than the poly types. You'd normally save the poly types for coupling between different stages of, say, an amplifier, or sometimes for non-critical timing.

Hope this helps.
