Power two ASR PCB's with one cable?

Power two ASR PCB's with one cable?

2012-10-14 by Russ

I'm building a dual ASR module. I'll be stacking two CGS34 PCB's behind a 5U panel.

Can I jumper the power rails between the two PCB's so I only need one cable to power the module, or will I need two power cables?

I'm guessing the latter, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks,
Russ M.

I would think that would be fine. Its basically the same as using a distro
board.

Short answer: Yes.

Is this true generally, or is it specific to the ASR?

In a perfect world, every module would have wires that run right back to the
power supply. That reduces interference between the modules. The reality is
only some modules cause problems. The easiest thing is to wire them to a
local distribution, or link them like you are doing, then IF you have
interference problems, then look at doing it the other way. Mostly it is
modules like VCOs that cause problems.
