The 5th output on my gated comparator is stuck on. Any ideas ?

Check for a wiring error either around the resistor/capacitor coupling
betweent he two halves of the 4051, or look for a short around the buffer
transistor on the fifth stage.

Couldn't find any shorts or wiring errors. Reheated solder joints for
transistor, buffer area. Problem solved. Thanks for you quick
responses, Ken.

Spoke too soon. Output 5 still stuck on and it outputs 15V ( the
other outs put out around 11V.

note: worked perfectly when I originally finished the module. The
problem didn't arise until I switched all the 2.2K resistors to 15K
(to make the LEDs dimmer). Do you think it's a bad component
somewhere or are the new resistor values *!@#*!ing it up?

Thanks again,
Peng

In order for the output to be around 15V, there MUST be a short circuit. It
may be internal to one or more components, or on the PCB - an etching fault
(like a hair lice copper bridge under the solder mask) or a soldering bridge.

Is the LED lit? It should be introducing a voltage drop if it is. Is the
wire connected to the right spot?
