Fun with an ASR

Fun with an ASR

2004-04-25 by dmichaelt2001

Good Afternoon All,

Here's some animated machine music that may be of interest to fans of
the ASR module.

Go here to listen:
http://www3.telus.net/public/michaelt/homepage.html
and click on "Shift".

The recording was done on 6 tracks. The first two tracks run the
entire length of the recording, tracks 3 and 4 start at about 00:40
and tracks 5 and 6 begin at about 01:20. What I found interesting was
the way the notes from the individual tracks play with/against each
other to make up little riffs or melodies. And there's lots of
bouncing between the left and right channels...gotta have that! :-)

The patch used for the left channel:
LFO square wave > ASR clock in
Blacet oscillator sine out > ASR in
ASR out > Blacet oscillator VC in (on CV Wave)
Blacet oscillator CV Wave out > filter in
Filter out > mixer

For the right channel repeat the above using a second output from the
same ASR to feed a second Blacet oscillator and a second filter.

All the best,
Michael

Thanks for the file, Michael. Enjoyed listening to it. I am planning
to build two ASRs in a couple of months. My main interest is in
"animated machine music". So I am looking forward to the ASRs. I'm
also getting several other CGS digital and analog modules.

Say, you have quite a synth collection in that photo on your website! I
recognize the Blacet and Wiard, and I think Dopfer, right? What's in
the upper left, in panels with all the color? Is that your DIY stuff?

Glad you liked the ASR tune. Ken makes some interesting modules and
I'm sure you'll have as much fun with them as I do.

You're right. There are a few Analogue Solutions modules mixed in
with the Doepfer racks as well. That photo was taken early last fall
and since then I've added a few more pieces: Blacet Binary Zone and
Dark Star Chaos and Wiard Noise Ring and Sequantizer. The Waldorf
Microwave XT is gone from the rack (I still have it) and has been
replaced with some CGS modules.

Those are the CGS modules (in FrakRac format).

Thanks for your interest.

Thanks Fernando!
