many thanks for all the advice guys , as you can probably tell i am no adept at this kind of repair and encoders etc and differences to potentiometers , can i just ask ,as someone who has soldered a bit and done little else is synth repair is cleaning the potentiometers etc a job i would be better to have done by a pro ? i am pretty handy and have taken apart a few synths in my time and can probably do this with ease but wondered , regarding the ds2 do i have to remove all the knobs first ? then unscrew the case or can this be done without withdrawing the ds2's circuit baords from the outer case ? i am slightly paranoid i will make things worse and that this might be a deep job ! i'll maybe take a peak later inside the ds2
regards
matt

Hi Matt,I don't own DS2 anymore but as i remember the controls that you mention are potentiometers & rotary switches, not encoders.Their values should be on the schematics and workable (not exact) replacements easily found.johnOn Sep 7, 2009, at 5:34 AM, zxkxki wrote:
Hi guys , just picked up a ds2 but need to now give it some care and attention , does anyone know if replacements for the filter cutoff encoder and the pitch scale osc encoder ( 32/16/8/4 control ) are available ? and any pointers to stockists ? or maybe these are both cleanable.I have ordered some dexoit for the cutoff encoder , does anyone have any tips on cleaning this ? its very touchy and noisey right now.The pitch scale encoder on osc 1 is very intermittant , it works on '8' but only after kind of push and pull the encoder a bitand get it ' just right ' , it doesnt seem to work in the others but when you push and pull it on those settings it attempts to , theresa glimmer of hope - feels like bad contacts or this encoder needs replacing? Ok so then theres the resonance which seems very very touchy / not a not noisy pot but it has very little ' on or off ' for the res , theres no res up until 90% and then it wacks in like a screaming banshey....is this normal for the ds2 ? theres not much between full on resonance and none or as much as iu am use to in other synths, does this require work or calibration maybe ?any advice would be great , especially on cleaning encoders and also talking the ds2 apart and good contacts for replacment parts
cheers
