Crumar Bit One - Beginning repairs
2013-05-08 by dearsharps
Hi - I've recently acquired a non-working cem3328 Crumar Bit One, and am setting out to try to fix it. Already grabbed the schematics from here, so thanks to the uploader, they are a very good quality scan. i just wanted to quickly describe what's going on in the hope that someone who's fixed one of these before might notice some pattern and have some advice for me. Currently, it powers on, but not all of the buttons and display are able to light up. It produces some sound, but its completely horrible, whiney high pitched, and not tuned at all. I have the impression that there is something globally wrong with this, like the power. First thing I've checked is the battery, which is very low, so I'll replace that right away. Will sub in a CR2032 for the current CR2016. I've checked the voltages being supplied: The +5V rail measures 4.86V, The +12V is measuring 11.87V, The -12V measures -12.18V Do these seem within the correct operating range? One thing odd that I've noticed is that every time I touch one of the leads from my voltmeter to any of these rails, there is a tiny spark, on the first touch. I've never noticed that when working on other synths. Not sure if that is something to pay attention to. Thanks for any input!
