Noise is part of it's charm!.
Well what do you expect from an late 70's
synth.
Try this with the brass section,
Starting with all the eq's in the mid
Poisson,
MID all the way up,TOP all the way down,BASS down half way
from the mid point.
RES. up, FEQ about 1/4 on, turn all Brass on and all
strings on.
Put a little attack on the brass.
Now you have Strings and Choir.
Tune the Brass filter freq. to your own taste, this works
well live and in a mix.
If you have a good Phaser with a Res. control, use it on
the String section only for a good ARP Quadra type sound, with out the RES. for
a ARP Omni II sound, as both units had the added bonus of a phase built in
that you could use on top of the standard string sound.
To find this sound on record listen to the sound at the
beginning 'The Cage', by Genesis on the studio album 'The Lamb Lies Down On
Broadway' or the live version on 'Three Sides Live', apart from the organ it's
mostly ARP Quadra.
Past Crumar Performer users all early Duran Duran string
sounds from the first two albums, just listen to the single 'Planet Earth'.That
is the Crumar in full flight.

----- Original Message -----From: F. BlastHello. I just got a Crumar Performer today and I absolutely love it!I've wanted one for quite a while, so I finally picked one up oneBay. You just can't beat the price of these things. Excellent valuefor 100 bucks. The actual unit is a little beat up, which is to beexpected considering its age, but it plays perfectly. And the stringsare positively luscious...yum. Very easy to get a great sound. Ilove the simplicity of it. Now since this is possibly the noisiest synth ever known to man, Iwas wondering if anyone is gating their Performer?Brian
