New (free) editor for the Bit 01 / 99

New (free) editor for the Bit 01 / 99

2006-12-11 by mrdataesq

Hello all,

First post -- but I only found this group just now, in looking to
spread the word about my program. But now I've found it, I think I'll
stay on!

I have written a patch editor for the Bit 01 & 99:

http://bitcontrol.berlios.de/

It runs as a VST or AU plugin on OS X and Windows. It's not quite
finished -- it doesn't yet handle splits and doubles -- but should be
useful now.

It's free, and for those of you who are code-heads, it's open source.

Hope some of you find it useful!

cheers -- Michael Ashton.

Great news! I'd love to try the editor, but somehow your page doesn't
load.

Thanks

I finally got through and downloaded the editor. Your page is
accessible, but not always.

The editor works great with my Bit01 in Ableton! It really opens up
the machine. Thanks!

I have some feature requests though:

- Some form of midi learn would be nice, or just the possibility to
tie cc numbers to the knobs and buttons, so it can be controlled from
a midi controller. That would mean hands-on control to all the Bit01's
functions!

- Perhas it would be possible to realease a version without the audio
outs. It is not a real problem, but in Ableton I have to use 2 tracks,
one for the VST editor and one to send midi notes to the synth. As
Ableton 'thinks' the VST is a softsynth, it doesn't pass on midi notes
through its track.

- An easy presest/patch menu would also be nice, so it becomes
possible to quickly scroll through patches. The inbuilt patch menu in
Ableton doesn't work with the editor.

Please don't take this as critisism. The editor is a great gift as it
is! I'm sure I'll use it lot!

Thanks again!

Thanks for the answer!

Now that I have your ear, I have one more request.

The 'lights' that indicate, for instance, whether a waveform is used
are not very clear. Often I have to look twice to see whether one is
on or off. Perhaps you could make the contrast between on and off a
bit larger or even use different colours for on and off.

It would already help a lot if the program 'remembered' the folder
where the patches are stored, so you don't have to point it to that
folder everytime you insert the plugin. Related to that, it seems the
plugin can't 'remember' the midi channel set in the options. It would
be nice if the channel were somehow stored in the plugin.

But all these are minor inconveniences if compared to the advantages
of your editor! I hardly used my Bit01 due to the cumbersome editing,
your editor has blown new life into it. It is a great sounding and
userfriendly machine now! I was on the verge of selling it, but now
I'm glad I didn't.
